Chart 2022
Taking place from 26 – 28 August 2022, Kunsthal Charlottenborg will once again house CHART Art Fair. The program comprises a rich offering of talks, performances, music, film screenings, public art installations as well as the second edition of the art book fair.
Discover a gathering of the leading art-books in the historical Assembly Hall at Charlottenborg. Experience talks, performances, music and outdoor art, design and architecture including a site-specific art installation by the Finish artist Kaarina Kaikkonen for the façade of Charlottenborg facing the historical plaza at Kongens Nytorv.
ART FAIR
This year’s CHART will include an art fair featuring presentations by 38 galleries from across the Nordic region. Among the highlights from the programme is a solo presentation by the Norwegian painter Ida Ekblad, one of the Nordic region’s new star casts. The artist Charlie Roberts (US) has curated a presentation by artists such as Stevie Dix (BE) and Trude Viken (NO), and the Argentic artist Tomas Saraceno will be presenting new works. Younger Nordic artists including Sofia Hultén (SE), Nina Beier (DK) and Anna Aagaard (DK) will also be represented at the art fair. Further info here.
ART BOOK FAIR
In the historic Assembly Hall at Charlottenborg, the book fair will gather the leading individuals and independent organisations from the Nordic print and publishing community. Further info here.
PUBLIC PROGRAM
During the weekend, there will be a public program, taking place in the courtyard of Charlottenborg. The program includes music, performances, art installations and architecture such as a concert by August Rosenbaum (DK), an argumented reality (AR) sculpture park, and a performative Zine-workshop.
In a series of talks, artists and critics will debate the future of the art world. Among the participants are the French icon ORLAN, the international star cast Yael Bartana and the Swedish artist Camilla Engström.
Bringing together the directors of three of the region’s National Galleries – Karin Hindsbo from Nasjonalmuseet (NO), Mikkel Borg from SMK (DK) and Gitte Ørskou from Moderna Museet (SE), will discuss the role of national galleries in light of inclusivity and post-pandemic insights. In addition, a series of live, in-person artists will offer an insight into the practices of some of the exhibition artists.
Reflecting CHART’s focus on architecture and design, the world-renowned architects Bjarke Ingels (BIG) and Kjertil Trædal Thorsen (Snøhetta) will meet with TF Chan (Wallpaper) to discuss museum architecture as ‘a space for spectacle’. Further info here.
ARCHITECTURE
Five teams of young architects, designers and artists have created pavilions under the theme ‘Social Architecture’ that aims to challenge the boundaries for social interactions. An international jury consisting of architect Bjarke Ingels (BIG), artist Johanne Hestvold, curator Pleun van Dijk, founder of The Circular Way Ditte Lysgaard Vind, architect Kjetil Trædal Thorsen (Snøhetta), and owner of Etage Projects Maria Foerlev have carefully elected the finalists. The five pavilions function as bars, restaurants and meet spots driven in collaboration with some of the local pioneers of Copenhagen. Further info here.
