Simon Dybbroe Møller
Thick & Thin
He has brought the bog body known as the Grauballe Man back to life, created a work featuring the Danish poet Peter Laugesen dangling from a forklift, and directed a cinematic trilogy inspired by Richard Scarry’s children’s books about the busy, busy world of work.
In the summer of 2024, Kunsthal Charlottenborg presents a survey of work by Danish artist Simon Dybbroe Møller (b. 1976), who is a professor at the School of Sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Spanning from mid-2000’s till the present, the exhibition will be the most comprehensive presentation of Dybbroe Møller’s practice to date. The artist will additionally be producing a number of new works as well as reconfigure older ones.
Dybbroe Møller is concerned with the construction of an image, in which notions of documentation and representation are continuously challenged and reshaped. In a conceptual fashion, the artist dissects our understanding of photography or rather the photographic through an exploration on perception and memory. Rather than settling into one medium or style, Dybbroe Møller continuously probes new territories in which he seamlessly moves between film, photography, found objects, installation, sculpture, performance, writing, curating and teaching.
The exhibition is curated by the director of the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, Krist Gruijthuijsen, in close collaboration with the artist.
Supported by The Augustinus Foundation, The Beckett Foundation, The New Carlsberg Foundation, The Danish Arts Foundation, The Obel Family Foundation and The William Demant Foundation.
