Live performance-lecture & listening session
Experience the listening installation Museum of Sound unfolds with a live performance-lecture and DJ set by Alex Murray Leslie (AUS) from the iconic music and performance group Chicks On Speed. The evening continues with a live concert and DJ set by one of the youngest pioneers on the electronic music and sound art scene, Colombian Berlin-based Samantha Millows, who performs under the artist name theories.
Alex Murray Leslie and theories will reflect on the works and artistic legacy of Mika Vainio. This, the two artists will do by performing a musical interpretation of the influence of Vainio’s legacy: Leslie from an activist, visual art, and performance-based perspective, and theories from a more experimental and electronic standpoint.
Programme:
16:45 Doors open (first come, first served, free entry)
17:00–18:30 Live performance-lecture by Alex Murray Leslie

About the artists:
Alex Murray-Leslie (AUS/NO)
Alex Murray-Leslie is an artist and performer, Professor of Digital Performance at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, NTNU, and co-founder and member of the iconic art-pop band Chicks on Speed (COS). COS was founded 28 years ago and is a collaborative artistic collective that frames experiments, interventions, and practices rooted in feminist actions, cross-pollinating art, sound, fashion, and design. Murray-Leslie’s solo and group work is renowned for pushing the boundaries of telematic, non/disciplinary performative experiences and pedagogical explorations, which synthesize multiple forms of pop edged, hybrid artist research and performance art practice.
Samantha Millows (COL/DE)
Samantha Millows is a multidisciplinary intermedia artist exploring the intersection of visual art and music. As a music curator under the name theories, she holds a residency at Threads Radio in the UK and is the founder of the interdisciplinary publishing platform Side Effects. Millows is driven by a deep curiosity for music and eclectic sound worlds that exist beyond traditional genre boundaries. She sees music as a force representing non-conformity and resistance to the established order—whether expressed through hypnotic electronica, panoramic electro, or unsettling abstract breaks. Her listening sessions are journeys through atmospheric and dreamy soundscapes, characterized by experimental spontaneity and a wide range of sounds. From ambient to IDM, drum & bass, and experimental music, Millows navigates the sonic spectrum effortlessly, delivering each session with a distinctive blend of fractured and harmonic sounds.
She is also co-founder of the Ambient Rave listening sessions in Berlin and the music platform Automagicalley.
Museum of Sound is a listening installation dedicated to the late Finnish sound artist and musician Mika Vainio. The installation invites you to let the noise of the outside world fade away and make space for sound’s rhythm and resonance. It features selected works by Mika Vainio alongside playlists curated by Danish and international artists connected to his sonic universe, including: herunder Thomas Knak (DK), Mieko Suzuki (JAP), KMRU/Joseph Kumaru (KENYA), Alex Murray Leslie (AUS/NO), Bruce Gilbert (UK), Tommi Grönlund (FIN) and Rikke Lundgreen (NO).
The exhibition and events at Kunsthal Charlottenborg are curated by Jesper N. Jørgensen in collaboration with Tommi Grönlund and Rikke Lundgreen, and supported by the Danish Arts Foundation and Gustav Packalén’s Mindefond.
