Kunsthal Charlottenborg and The Schools of Visual Arts brought closer together

With the new initiative ’Charlottenborg Art’ The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Kunsthal Charlottenborg wish to strengthen the relationship and collaboration between the place of education and the exhibition space.

A multifarious collaboration
Charlottenborg Art is the overall name of a number of activities organised in collaboration between The Schools of Visual Arts and the exhibition space. Some activities have already been launched, while others are in the melting pot and will be realised during 2017. The Schools of Visual Arts and Kunsthal Charlottenborg merged in 2012, and therefore Charlottenborg Art is supposed to establish a stronger collaboration and a stronger common visual identity between the two institutions as one cultural institution. The initiative Charlottenborg Art consists of:

  • Charlottenborg Art Books
  • Charlottenborg Art Cinema
  • Charlottenborg Art Research
  • Charlottenborg Art Afgang
  • Charlottenborg Art Club

Increased professionalism and overall communication

Charlottenborg Art is supposed to be the catalyst for the collaboration between The Schools of Visual Arts and Kunsthal Charlottenborg. The purpose of the initiative is to create a space of possibilities for the many resources of the institution for the employees as well as the students.

Sanne Kofod, rector of The Schools of Visual Arts, states: “Charlottenborg Art is the result of our wish to bring The Schools of Visual Arts and Kunsthal Charlottenborg closer together professionally and communicatively, so the synergy, that was the starting point of the merge, can blossom. With Charlottenborg Art we have created a common platform that brings the academic breadth of the entire institution into play. In this way, educators, curators, and students will contribute professionally to the different areas of focus of Charlottenborg Art’s”.

Charlottenborg Art activities
Charlottenborg Art Talks Charlottenborg Art Talks is a series of lectures taking place every Wednesday at 5pm. The lectures are organized by The Schools of Visual Arts and Kunsthal Charlottenborg. The talks have been held since 2015 formerly known as ”Wednesday Talk”.

Charlottenborg Art Books Charlottenborg Art Books is the new name of Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s book store. Charlottenborg Art Books provides both academic art books but also art books for a wider audience. Charlottenborg Art Books will also offer so-called ”Charlottenborg Art Editions”, which is reproduced art works by students or employees at The Schools of Visual Arts and artists that exhibits at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Charlottenborg Art Cinema Every Wednesday at 7pm Charlottenborg Art Cinema presents movies and videos in Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s new cinema. The programmes are put together by extern curators and by the organisation’s curators.

Charlottenborg Art Research Charlottenborg Art Research is The Schools of Visual Art’s new exhibition room/activity that commence in 2017. Charlottenborg Art Research use The School of Visual Arts practice-based research and artistic development work as a point of departure materialized as exhibitions.

Charlottenborg Art Club Charlottenborg Art Club is a new initiative for organisations and private individuals who want to support the new artistic talents educated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts education of new artistic talents and Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s exhibitions of national and international contemporary art.




The Schools of Visual Arts and Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s collaboration about The MFA Degree Show, the final exhibition for graduates at The Schools of Visual Arts, remains as always, but is now one of Charlottenborg Art’s activities.
