Talk & DJ-set

Museum of Sound

Join us as we celebrate sound art and one of its most groundbreaking figures, Mika Vainio.

Together with a panel of artists and curators, we explore both Mika Vainio’s distinctive electronic universes and the role of sound art in contemporary art – from its intersections with visual art and installation to performative and time-based practices.

The evening starts with a moderated conversation between key voices from Mika Vainio’s artistic circle and contemporary artists working at the intersection of sound and image. Afterwards, you can experience the listening installation Museum of Sound, enjoy live DJ sets, and grab a cold drink.

About the talk:
The talk will introduce artist and musician Mika Vainio, and—through contributions from artists and key figures in his circle—offer insight into his work with sound and listening as the core of his artistic practice.

The conversation centers on electronic sound art and the interplay between sound and visual art, which has shaped the fields over the past 30 years—beginning with the founding of Sähkö Recordings by Mika Vainio and Tommi Grönlund in 1993.

Mika Vainio was deeply engaged in how sound and listening experiences affect our consciousness and senses, often activating psychoacoustic effects to create hypnotic and boundary-pushing auditory experiences. The conversation will focus on Mika Vainio’s influence on the development of sound art, with particular emphasis on his inspiration from installation art, time-based art, and performance.
