Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 2025
The Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition is one of the most significant open-call juried exhibitions in Europe. Every year, it presents a carefully selected array of fine art, architecture, applied art and design from Denmark and abroad. Reflecting current trends on the art scene, the exhibition features works that span a wide range of materials and media, offering plenty of opportunity to explore the rich diversity of contemporary art.
Ever since the Charlottenborg Foundation was established in 1857, the Spring Exhibition has served as an important platform for the artists who have debuted or presented new works at the exhibition through the years. Several of them are now internationally renowned names, including historical figures like Anna Ancher, P.S. Krøyer, Vilhelm Hammershøi and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, as well as more recent artists like Per Kirkeby and Olafur Eliasson, along with Klara Lilja, Sif Itona Westerberg and Frederik Næblerød, who have debuted at the exhibition in recent years.
Each year, a professional jury selects a wide-ranging array of artists from among the many who submit their work in an open application process. The jury members are appointed based on their understanding of artistic practices and strong international outlook. This year’s jury, who will also curate the Spring Exhibition, is the multidisciplinary artist and curator collective coyote, known for their site-specific work exploring the potential of collectivity.
Once again, the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition presents the Solo Award in collaboration with Politiken’s Forhal. The winner will receive DKK 10,000 and a solo show at Politiken’s Forhal. Zishi Han and Wei Yang, winners of the 2024 Solo Award for the piece Hairpin Beneath, will exhibit at Politiken’s Forhal in late summer 2025.
The exhibition is organised by the Charlottenborg Foundation in collaboration with Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
In 2025, the exhibition is supported by the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, Axel Muusfeldt Foundation, Beckett Foundation, Knud Højgaard Foundation, New Carlsberg Foundation, Danish Arts Foundation and the William Demant Foundation.
