MFA Degree Show 2017
AFGANG (MFA Degree Show) is the annually exhibition for the graduates from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Schools of Visual Arts. In these months, 24 artists are finishing their 6-year education. The exhibition celebrates and presents new works created by the graduates of The Art Academy. The exhibition is at one time the culmination of their education and an insight into the latest six years working process.
Materials and expressions will vary from artist to artist and this year’s graduate students work with all kinds of styles and modes of expression; from video and painting to sculpture, installation and performance art. Some works are vast in scale; others are delicate, fleeting or porous. Together, they offer insight into the potential future of contemporary Danish art.
The exhibition is presented in the classical setting of the large skylight halls at Kunsthal Charlottenborg – a building opening in 1883 with the vision of exhibiting the cutting edge of visual arts.
The artists featured are:
Anne Eckersberg, Anne Sofie Fenneberg, Coline Marotta, David Minařík, Eduardo Antonio Rodriguez Chain, Gabriel Bott, Hannibal Andersen, Ingrid Høiskar Borgfjord, Jacob Alrø, Jens Hüls Funder, Jesper Skov Madsen, Kirsten Astrup, Lydia Hauge Sølvberg, Malte Starck, Veronica Riget, Nicky Sparre-Ulrich, Nike Åkerberg, Nikolaj Nielsen Phillipsen, Nina Mølgård Knappe, Oskar Jakobsen, Signe Boe, Simon Rasmussen, Theodor Walldius and Vibe Overgaard.
On request of the artists, Christian Skovbjerg Jensen has been appointed to curate the MFA Degree Show. Christian Skovbjerg Jensen is a strong profile in the Nordic art scene and has wide experience with curating and art communication. Skovbjerg Jensen is director of Inter Arts Center in Malmö and has previously curated major exhibition projects like Tumultog Momentum biennale and parts of the Copenhagen Art Festival in 2012.
The Art Academy
The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Schools of Visual Arts is government funded education in visual arts . 170 students will in the course of six years develop their artistic work, under guidance of professional contemporary artists. The Art Academy has since 1754 been at home in the former Charlottenborg Palace, which was build in 1672, located in Copenhagen city centre on Kongens Nytorv next to, among other things, The Royal Theaters Old Stage.
