Welcome to the Shitshow!
This spring, Kunsthal Charlottenborg presents a solo exhibition featuring British artist Jeremy Deller. It will coincide with CPH:DOX, Copenhagen’s international documentary film festival, which will, as always, take over Kunsthal Charlottenborg in March. The exhibition will accentuate documentary aspects of Deller’s practice which records extraordinary moments of our time.
The show brings together a wide range of works created over the course of the last fifteen years, homing in on many different aspects of English culture: one film documents dedicated Depeche Mode fans from around the world, another shows passionate protesters fighting for and against Brexit in front of Parliament in London. Other works go further back in history, for example to the Battle of the Somme during World War I, where the British army suffered heavy losses, or to archaeological finds from prehistoric times.
Through film, photography, graphic works and sculptural installations, Jeremy Deller draws a multifaceted and at times humorous portrait of English culture, examining a range of different communities and groupings where people are united by a common cause.
The exhibition is curated by Henriette Bretton-Meyer and realised in collaboration with CPH:DOX.
